The complex and complicated diagnosis of sepsis is still cofounding many in healthcare. But there’s new hope for a better understanding of sepsis. During what is expected to be a remarkable broadcast, Talk Ten Tuesdays special guest Dr. Wilbur Lo will discuss the disease at a molecular and cellular level so that listeners can appreciate its pathophysiology.

Dr. Lo is a member of the faculty for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) World Congress, a consultant for AHIMA Domestic CDI Content and Curriculum, and a physician CDI (clinical documentation improvement) consultant for Jzanus Consulting. During his postdoctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he conducted research in renal pathology, presented abstracts for the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and American Society for Clinical Pathology annual meetings, and was published in a peer-reviewed journal, “Kidney International.”

Other segments to be featured on the broadcast include:

  • CDI Report: Dr. James S. Kennedy, president of CDIMD Physician Champions and one of the nation’s frontrunners in clinical documentation integrity programs, will discuss issues confronting CDI specialists who are documenting sepsis.

  • Coding Report: Jonathan LaFleur, an auditor with HRS, will discuss the importance of accurate coding of sepsis.

  • News Desk: Sandy Brewton will check in with the latest ICD-10 headline news. Sandy is a senior healthcare consultant for Panacea Healthcare Solutions, a Career Step company.
