Coder’s Paradigm — HIT IT

By

EDITOR’S NOTE: On a recent Talk-Ten-Tuesday broadcast, Denny Flint, president of Complete Practice Resources, entertained the radio audience with an original rap song entitled, “Coder’s Paradigm —HIT IT.” In response to numerous requests, we have reprinted his lyrics.

Since today’s topic focuses on education, I want to stress the importance of being creative to engage your providers and staff. That can be a challenge especially for the younger members of your organization. You have to figure out a way to keep their interest when it comes to ICD-10 in an age appropriate way.

So I wrote a song that might help called:

Coder’s Paradigm – HIT IT

ROLL MUSIC: (ESTABLISH)

ICD 10, it’s a serious threat, if you don’t start now,

you gonna regret

ICD10 seem like a cap in the head,

if you don’t get a handle, you be better off dead

ICD-10 will be a bumpy road

if you just focus on all them codes

To stop the frustration,

the key is ICD-10 education

Insurance company just a front for the man,

Don’t want to pay you, ICD10 is their plan

Can’t get your money if you can’t submit a claim.

Put your head on straight and get ahead of that game

Talk to your homies your partners your software vendor,

if you don’t your check be returned to sender

This ain’t just a problem for coding and IT,

your whole practice be affected, listen to me

Like a hornet’s nest, ICD10 will sting.

Another lame excuse, to take away your bling

ICD10 is the gangsta. The killa. The thundah!

No wonder docs be angry and goin under

CHORUS:

BEEN SPENDIN MOST OUR TIME LIVING IN A CODING PARADIGM

Start now, don’t be confused.

Avoid those ICD-10 blues

We been spendin most our time,

living in a coding paradigm

It’s time to change your ways cause

you are running out of time.

(OVER THE MUSIC)

To Demonstrate ICD-10, it’s time to do my interpretive dance, “Dub Step. ICD-10.”  Be happy you can’t see this. Not pretty.

START: DANCE ROUTINE; MUSIC CONTINUES

ICD10 dance workin up a serious sweat,

ICD10 is a bonafide hip hop threat

ICD10 kills compensation causes frustration,

I don’t like Snookie and I hate the Situation.

Documentation is the point, don’t get all philosophic,

stay focused on that diagnosis topic

How you gonna get your doctor engaged?

You better do it now, to be on the same page

We’re all sick of insurance company runaround,

make us race around the clinic,

chase our doctor down

You can’t pick a code if it ain’t written in the chart,

and if you do that’s fraud so don’t even start

Everybody out there runnin ICD10 scared,

nobody know the best way to get prepared

Start with GEMs. You know, it’s a fresh tool.

GEMs Trainin. Gems explainin,

don’t be nobody’s fool

Go to Webinars. Seminars.

Buy a book and Learn.

Avoid the later ICD-10 burn

Do it now, satisfaction guaranteed.

Educate yourself, your mind will be freed.

CHORUS:

BEEN SPENDIN MOST OUR TIME LIVING IN A CODING PARADIGM

Docs blind to change their mind,

cause they think that everything’s just fine

We been spendin most our time, living in a coding paradigm

It’s time to change your ways cause

you are running out of time.

Word to your doctah!
