Against the backdrop of rumblings about halting the implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS, 69 percent of Talk-Ten-Tuesday listeners said this week that they were against postponement of the new code set mandated to take effect in October 2013.

Talk-Ten-Tuesday, a live weekly podcast produced by ICD10monitor, conducts a weekly poll of its audience members. The poll on Tuesday, Feb. 7 asked the question “With all the recent ‘talk’ of wanting to postpone ICD-10, do you think implementation should be postponed?”

Eighteen percent responded “yes,” while 13 percent, responded that they weren’t sure.

“While starting the transition and investing the necessary resources may seem daunting amid the storm of priorities our industry is trying to manage, the good news is that, if transitioned successfully, ICD-10 stands to offer substantial cost and revenue benefits,” said Ken Lacy, president of Precyse Advanced Technologies, the technology arm of Precyse.

The poll was prompted by several recent news events that continue to reverberate: the most recent of those was news that the Medical Group Management Association had called for an extension of the enforcement delay of 5010 from March 1, 2012 to June 1, 2012.

Earlier, on Jan. 17, James L. Madara, MD, executive vice president and CEO for the American Medical Association, wrote a letter to U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner urging Congress to halt implementation of ICD-10.

“The response was overwhelming not to delay the implementation of ICD-10 on our Talk-Ten-Tuesday broadcast,” said Kim Charland, senior vice president of consulting for Medical Learning, Inc. and co-host of the half-hour podcast. “We believe that this is an indication of where the industry is as a whole is. ”
