Painful to recall, yet now burned into the nation’s consciousness, are the gruesome scenes and sounds from last Sunday night’s shooting massacre during an outdoor music festival in Las Vegas, an event that left 59 dead and more than 500 injured.

And although law enforcement agencies are continuing to conduct a massive investigation in the gunman’s motives and President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have visited with victims and first responders, the nation remains in a collective state of shock.

With this backdrop as context, Talk Ten Tuesdays during its next edition will recognize the life-or-death role played out every day in America’s emergency departments by specially trained physicians and nurses. Leading this special-edition broadcast will be Dr. Edward A. Michelson, Professor and Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine, Paul L Foster School of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Services Center, and joining the discussion will be Talk Ten Tuesdays co-host Erica Remer, MD, herself once an ED physician.

Other segments to be featured on the broadcast include:

  • Revenue Cycle Report: Lyman G. Sornberger, chief healthcare strategy officer for Capio Partners, will continue his reporting the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA).

  • News Desk: Gloryanne Bryant, past president of the California Health Information Association, will be reporting live from the annual AHIMA convention and exhibit in Los Angeles.

  • DocTalk: Nationally prominent psychiatrist H. Steven Moffic, MD, will report on the emerging mental health crisis among victims of both the Las Vegas massacre and the survivors of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

  • CDI Report: Christina Panos, the customer success manager at Wolters Kluwer, will have the Talk Ten Tuesday clinical documentation (CDI) report.
