In-person C&M Meeting Will Now Be Virtual

The two-day meeting is being held as a webcast event.

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Coordination and Maintenance Committee (C&M) meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday this week.  

The two-day meeting will now be held as a webcast- only event. Meetings begin at 9 a.m. EST and will continue until 5 p.m. A lunch break is planned from 12:30-1:15 p.m. 

The following schedule will be used for both meeting days:   

The procedure codes will be reviewed Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m. EST. The broadcast will occur online at  https://letsmeet.webex/letsmeet/onstage/g.php?MTID=e20f2a065e507d5e156f34aa9076e32e8.  

There is no password or code for the meeting. The dial-in information will be provided via WebEx. The handouts can be found online at http://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Coding/ICD9ProviderDiagnosticCodes/ICD-9-CM-C-and-M-Meeting-Materials.html.

The diagnosis portion will be managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and will follow the procedures. It is possible that the diagnoses could begin Tuesday as well.

  • Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

  • Electronic nicotine delivery devices
  • Endometriosis
  • Non-ischemic myocardial injury
  • Pediatric feeding disorders
  • Personal history of Chimeric Antigen receptor T-Cell therapy
  • Synthetic cannabinoids
  • Vaping-related disorder
  • ICD-10-CM Addendum

There were no requests for diagnosis or procedure codes to be effective April 1, 2020. The CDC did announce in January 2020 that U07.0 for vaping-related disorder will become effective April 1, 2020.    

Attendees can submit comments on the proposals via the chat function in WebEx, or they can be made verbally. Comments regarding the diagnosis and procedure proposals will be accepted after the meeting and are due by April 17, 2020. The handouts contain the details for submitting comments.

The final codes will be released in June 2020. A preliminary version will be published in the Inpatient Prospective Payment System Proposed Rule (IPPS) in April 2020. The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and AAPC will grant free continuing education credits for attendees.
