Leading Healthcare Executives Share ICD-10 Insights During Live Broadcasts from AHIMA

From a one-hour podcast on opening night to a tribute to four outstanding female healthcare executives, listeners online and those gathered on the convention floor of the 83rd annual AHIMA Convention and Exhibit in Salt Lake City, Utah gained valuable insight to help them implement the new ICD-10 coding system.

Sunday night’s preview featured commentary from panelists including Sue Bowman, RHIA, CCS, the director of coding policy and compliance for AHIMA; Chris Powell, president of Precyse; Maria Bounos, RN, MPH, CHC-P, business development manager for regulatory and reimbursement software solutions for Wolters Kluwer; Kathy Pride, RHIT, CPC, CCS-P, PCS, director of client services for Complete Medical Solutions; and Marianne Allen, RHIA, MBA, operations executive for Medical Learning, Inc.

Live Coverage Day 1

Coverage of the first day’s activities featured panelists Tifni Corbin from Ogden Regional Medical Center, the current president of the Utah chapter of the American Health Information Management Association; Dan Rode, the vice president of advocacy and policy for AHIMA; Kathy Pride, RHIT, CPC, CCS-P, director of implementation and client services for Complete Medical Solutions; Mark Morsch, vice president of technology for A-Life Medical and OptumInsight; and Becky DeGrosky, RHIT, director of product management forTruCode.

Tales from the I-10 Trail

A second segment on Monday called “Tales from the I-10 Trail” included Lyman Sornberger, MBA, executive director of revenue cycle management for the Cleveland Clinic Health System; Gretchen Segado, MS, PCS, CPC, CCP-P, deputy compliance officer for hospital and professional fee billing for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; and Kyle McElroy, RHIA, corporate director of health information management for IASIS Healthcare in Franklin, Tenn.

Live Coverage Day 2

The second day of programming, called “Live Coverage Day 2” of AHIMA’s general session, featured T. S. Üstün, team coordinator of classification, terminologies and standards for the Department of Health Statistics of the World Health Organization; John Pitsikoulis, RHIA, strategic advisory services client executive for CTG Health; Niall Doherty, founder and president of e4 Services; Lauri Gray, CPC, RHIT, editor for Contexo Media; Nelly Leon-Chisen, RHIA, director of coding and classification for the American Hospital Association; and Patricia Trela, RHIA, director of HIM and rehabilitation services for Diskriter, Inc.

In Their Own Words

On Tuesday afternoon four outstanding female executives were recognized for their outstanding leadership in a segment called “In Their Own Words.” Receiving the inaugural “I-10 Leadership Awards” were Gloryanne Bryant, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, regional managing director of health information management for the Kaiser Hospitals in Northern California; Linda Kloss, RHIA, CAE, FAHIMA, former AHIMA chief executive officer; Mary Bessinger, MBA, RHIA, CCS, CPHQ, AHIMA Certified ICD-10 Trainer, administrative vice president of coding for Parallon Business Performance Group; and Beth Just, MBA, RHIA, FHIMA, president and CEO of Just Associates.
